One of my favorite books, when I was younger, was Dale Carnegie's Book "How to Win Friends & Influence People". I highly recommend that you read that book if you haven't already. For those of you in the class that has read the book, then you will recall that it's pretty imperative to talk to people and how to talk to people. Many lessons that I've utilized, can be pulled from this book. The power of Networking is something that many of us is still having problems with. Maybe it's social media, maybe its apps on our phones, or even the binge-watching sessions of Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, and the likes thereof.
I would be lying if I didn't admit to falling prey to Netflix's devilish marketing schemes that keep me on the couch longer than I should, however, that's a small guilty pleasure that I get to share with my wife. But when I look at my kids who are all adults now, it seems like they have problems being social. I mean like actually talking to people, laughing, joking, etc. Forgive me for sounding like the old person, but I'm constantly seeing them on their phones. I mean like hanging with friends while talking to those same friends through text messaging. They have issues just looking up from their phone and saying, What's up?
I know, I'm REALLY sounding like the old guy now. Before COVID, I enjoyed going to Networking events to talk to people, learn what is new in my field, potentially partnering up with someone and collaborating ideas, and so forth. Now we really have to utilize social media to take the place of face-to-face interaction.
Enter into the class, guest professor JC Preston. From the lesson he teaches, I'm amazed at how he has, in my eyes, perfected 1-on-1 networking and having access to many. Amongst the lesson, I just kept remembering passages from Dale Carnegie's book. It just goes to show that you can still utilize the principles of networking in this new world that is forcing us not to be social. I can't wait for you to check out this lesson that I've aptly called, Networking Class.
